Americanism is the foundation of who we are as members of the American Legion Family. It is found in our love of country, our respect for the sacrifices of those who came before us, and our commitment to ensuring future generations understand the freedoms and responsibilities of being an American.

Every day, we have opportunities to live out Americanism. We do it when we honor our veterans, teach respect for our flag, support our communities, participate in our civic duties, and encourage others to become engaged citizens. Americanism is not confined to meeting halls or ceremonies—it is reflected in how we serve others and represent our nation in our daily lives.

One of our greatest responsibilities is investing in the next generation. Programs such as American Legion Baseball, Boys State, the National High School Oratorical Contest, and Scouting America provide young people with opportunities to develop leadership skills, character, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for our country. These programs help shape tomorrow's leaders while preserving the values that have made America strong.

I encourage every member to become involved in these efforts. Whether you volunteer your time, mentor a young person, support a local program, or help start one in your Squadron, your involvement matters. The success of Americanism depends on all of us working together to pass these values forward.

Americanism also extends beyond our youth programs. It includes promoting respect for the United States flag, encouraging civic engagement, supporting educational opportunities, and helping our communities understand the importance of service and responsible citizenship. These efforts strengthen the bond between our organization and the communities we proudly serve.

Americanism is personal to me. My grandfather served during World War II, and my father served during the Vietnam War. Their service helped shape my understanding of duty, sacrifice, and love of country. Their examples remind me that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured by ordinary Americans who answered the call when their nation needed them most.

As members of the Sons of the American Legion, we have inherited a responsibility to preserve that legacy. We are entrusted with carrying forward the values of patriotism, service, honor, and citizenship. The future of Americanism depends not only on what we teach, but on what we demonstrate through our actions.

I look forward to serving alongside each of you as we continue to strengthen our communities, support our youth, honor our veterans, and promote the principles that make our nation great. Together, we can ensure that the spirit of Americanism remains strong for generations to come.
