Americanism is, to me, one of the most important things about the American Legion Family. It’s what defines us and sets us apart from other organizations. It is the pillar that most people are affected by every day. Through Americanism, we affect change in ourselves, our community, and our nation daily. It is more than the programs that comprise it. It is the values and beliefs we have that help promote patriotism, civic engagement and a deep respect for the United States.

As chairman of the Americanism committee, it is my duty to promote the ideals and programs that fall under this pillar. I will work to ensure they succeed as best as I am able. It through this work that we will together instill these values of America in the youth and wider community.

Americanism programs such as American Legion Baseball, the National High School Oratorical Competition, Scouting America and Boys State are critical foundations in our efforts to help the spirit of Americanism reach our youth. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to try to help with these programs in some way. Help with an existing program at your squadron, or if they don’t exist, investigate staring one. I will be there to help you try and make them grow. Together, we can help these programs, and ourselves, spread Americanism in our community.

There is more to the pillar than these programs, however. Americanism also encompasses US flag protection, voting and civic engagement and educational scholarships.

I gained my eligibility through both of my grandfathers who served in WW2. I am proud to help carry on the belief in this country’s ideals that they fought for so many years ago. I will do all I can to make them proud. I hope you will carry this same zeal with you in whatever you do as a member of this organization.

If you have any questions or suggestions on Americanism, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Service to God and Country,
